PRC-RH seeks Special Interest Project proposals

Published on December 17, 2024

The University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health, based in the College of Public Health, is eligible to apply for the 2025 Special Interest Projects (SIPs) supplemental funding. It is published as RFA-DP-25-126 . It is anticipated that up to 12 awards will be made under this NOFO for the 6 proposals and will start Sept. 30, 2025. These funding opportunities are available only to the Prevention Research Centers in the U.S. The PI role is not limited to PRC Directors but can be any investigator at that institution-therefore, anyone at the UI may apply.

The purpose of the SIPs is to inform public health practice through high-quality applied health promotion and disease prevention public health research in real-world settings to identify, design, test, evaluate, disseminate, and translate interventions (i.e., programs, practices, policies, or strategies) to prevent and reduce risk for the leading causes of illness, disability, and death in the United States.  As noted, there are 6 SIP proposals included in this NOFO and only one application per SIP is allowed from each institution. Topics include cancer, lifestyle change implementation research, vaccines, and overdose prevention and treatment research.

If you are interested in applying for/leading any of the above SIPs, please contact Heidi Haines (heidi-haines@uiowa.edu) Deputy Director of the PRC-RH by Jan. 12, 2025. Rima Afifi, PRC-RH Director, and Heidi Haines would be happy to meet with faculty to answer any questions you have about the SIPs. Please share with others that might be interested.
