Ragan Martin recognized with IPHA Emerging Leader Award

Ragan Martin, an MPH student in epidemiology, was honored by members of the Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA) with the 2025 Emerging Leader Award. Ragan received this award on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in conjunction with the Public Health Conference of Iowa held in Des Moines, Iowa.

This award recognizes an individual who has exhibited public health leadership in Iowa through advocacy, community involvement, and/or program innovation as a student or early career professional.

Ragan was nominated by Tricia Kitzmannm, assistant professor of instruction in the University of Iowa College of Public Health, who wrote in her nomination:

Over the past year, Ragan has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and communication skills, making her an invaluable asset to our Strike Force program, our community partners and team.

Leadership: Ragan spearheaded the development and implementation of a new community outreach program that significantly increased our engagement with local organizations.

Professionalism: Ragan’s professionalism is evident in every aspect of her work. She maintains the highest standards of integrity and accountability, ensuring that all projects are completed efficiently and effectively.

Teamwork: Ragan is a true team player who fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment. She actively seeks input from her colleagues and values diverse perspectives, which has led to innovative solutions and successful project outcomes.

Communication: Ragan excels in communication, both within our team and with external partners. She has established strong relationships with community partners, facilitating open and effective dialogue that has enhanced our collaborative efforts.
