Dr. Mgbechi Erondu to speak at Medicine and Humanities Celebration

University of Iowa alumna Dr. Mgbechi Eronduwill speak at Iowa’s Fall 2024 Medicine and Humanities Celebration on Monday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Medical Educational Research Facility (MERF) Auditorium.

Dr. Erondu, MD, MFA, graduated from Princeton University with a BA in anthropology and completed a year-long fellowship in Botswana conducting HIV/AIDS research before matriculating at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. During medical school, she also earned an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Distinction in Humanities, and the 2016 Plughaupt Prize for Fiction. Her work has been published in McSweeney’s and The Examined Life Journal.

Dr. Erondu is currently a double board-certified Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Surgery, and Pain Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She will be discussing how a strong humanities background empowered her career as a physician-writer from undergrad to medical school to residency to academic medicine.
