Pre-conference workshop: Harnessing the Power of Community Engagement in Health
Published on February 26, 2025
Join the Iowa Public Health Association for a dynamic 6-hour pre-conference* workshop designed to equip you with the knowledge and strategies to strengthen civic participation for better community health outcomes. Registration fees vary; support for students is available (see below).
When: March 31, 2025, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Holiday Inn Des Moines – Airport
Featuring Jeanne Ayers of Healthy Democracy Healthy People, you’ll explore the connection between civic engagement and health through interactive discussions, small-group activities, and insights from experienced community leaders. Learn how to build effective partnerships, use data and storytelling to drive action, dispel misinformation without alienating audiences, and develop impactful outreach campaigns. Whether you’re a public health professional, a community leader, or advocate (e.g. vaccines, food systems, housing), this workshop will provide practical tools to create meaningful change.
Lunch will be provided and continuing education credits will be available.
Students: This workshop is open to all students in all degree programs — there is funding available for MPH, MS, and PhD students through the MPH program and through the Grad Success Award at CPH. Contact Anjali Deshpande (anjali-deshpande@uiowa.edu) for details.
*You do not need to be registered for the Public Health Conference of Iowa to attend this workshop.
