Seeking innovative ideas for climate change and health solutions

Do you have a creative solution to address the impact of climate change on human health? Your ideas are needed and may earn up to $10,000 in funding!

WHAT: Climate Change and Health Solutions Challenge seeks to leverage the entrepreneurial spirit of the University of Iowa community to develop innovations that reduce the health effects of climate change.

The goal is to create and develop feasible, actionable, and sustainable approaches at the intersection of human health and climate.

WHO: This Challenge is open to individuals or teams composed of undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and/or faculty. Applicants are invited to submit two-page proposals describing the problem they seek to address and their potential solution. Following an expert review process, up to four proposals will be awarded $10,000 each to put their ideas into action.

WHEN: The proposal deadline is October 7, 2024.

HOW: Proposals may include any approach to limit the degree or effects of climate change on health or public health. Categories might include but are not limited to:

  • Health, including mental health.
  • Policy and processes regarding health effects of climate change.
  • Disaster prevention, public health preparedness, response.
  • Efficiency and sustainability of health and public health measures.
  • Communication and social innovations.
  • Protection or air quality and drinking water resources.
  • Human migration and displacement.
