HMP scholars’ work featured in ‘Tackling Structural Racism in Health’ journal issue

Research by Abdinasir Ali, a PhD candidate in health services and policy, and Jason Semprini, a post-doctoral scholar with the College of Public Health, will be featured in the October 2023 issue of Health Affairs, "Tackling Structural Racism in Health." Coinciding with the release of the issue, Health Affairs will host a virtual forum on Oct. 3 at which panels of distinguished authors and experts will present their work and engage in discussions. Published September 28, 2023

College of Public Health announces the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy

As part of a reorganization within the College of Public Health, the Iowa Institute of Public Health Research and Policy will be renamed and combined with the Institute for Public Health Practice and the Center for Public Health Statistics. The new organizational structure encompassing these units will be named the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy (IPHPRP). Published September 28, 2023

Public health student interns in Chile, works to improve education standards

Public health student Guadalupe de la Rosa recently completed an internship in Santiago, Chile. Funding from multiple sources, including a CPH Global Public Health Student Travel Grant supported by Dale and Linda Baker, helped make her international experience financially feasible. Philanthropist Linda R. Baker to receive UI International Impact Award

Linda R. Baker, an Iowa graduate, educator, and philanthropist, has been named the winner of the 2023 International Impact Award, an award that honors exceptional individuals who have made sustained and deep contributions internationally or in the U.S. to promote global understanding. In 2014, Baker and her husband Dale established scholarships to support public health students in their service-learning pursuits. Baker will be honored at a special event Nov. 2. Published September 26, 2023
