Call for Research Week poster abstracts

Funding available to add roll bars to old tractors

Limited rebates are available to help farmers pay for adding a Roll Over Protection Structure — or ROPS — to tractors manufactured before 1985. “Investing in retrofitting older tractors with ROPS protects farmers and rural communities from a leading cause of agricultural death and injury,” said Brandi Janssen, CPH clinical assistant professor. Iowa research partnership developing a rapid, low-cost test for diarrheal diseases

University of Iowa researchers are partnering with GoDx, Inc. based in Madison, Wisconsin, to develop a low-cost test for rapidly identifying gut bugs that cause diarrheal disease and whether they are resistant to certain antibiotics. Knowing quickly which bug is causing a patient’s disease can help with prompt and appropriate treatment. Published September 11, 2023

Study shows young employees face workplace violence

Three out of five young employees have experienced some form of workplace violence, results of a recent study show. “As labor restrictions for youth are loosening in some states, our research shows that young workers need more protections in the workplace,” says study co-author Carri Casteel, professor of occupational and environmental health and director of the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center.
