Mark Vander Weg is Professor of and Head of the Department of Community and Behavioral Health, with secondary appointments in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Psychological and Brain Sciences. He is also an investigator with the Center for Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation with the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Dr. Vander Weg is trained as a clinical health psychologist. His primary research interests are in promoting health behavior change. Much of his work has focused on designing, evaluating, and implementing tobacco cessation interventions across a wide range of settings and for diverse populations. His additional interests include rural health, physical activity promotion, weight management, and behavioral and community-based approaches to cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention.
