Why Iowa?

Why should I go to The University of Iowa?

We consider our program a family. Students engage with faculty in exciting laboratory and field research aimed to change the paradigms of protecting worker and community health. Iowa students have a strong history of winning awards at the American Industrial Hygiene conference and exhibition (AIHce). We also have fun, including karaoke night, cookouts, and charity events.

We have outstanding job placement. Our graduates find satisfying careers with excellent compensation. Our curriculum with extensive training in writing and speaking makes our graduates stand out to employers.

Our faculty have ‘real world’ perspective, experience, and partnerships in diverse sectors, including manufacturing, health care, and agriculture. We also take our research outside the workplace fence line to study community exposures.

We are ABET accredited. This accreditation means that we teach the industrial hygiene rubrics deemed needed by the profession. It also means that you can become a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) one year sooner than if you attend a non-ABET-certified program. Our commitment to the profession is reflected in the fact that all primary faculty have CIH certification.
